Guide To Achieving “Super Affiliate” Status
If you’re one of those people who find the Internet business a little daunting and confusing, you might be asking yourself what kind of online business can I get involved in. Why not give affiliate marketing a try?
For those not familiar with affiliate marketing, it’s best described as a revenue sharing relationship between merchants/vendors and online publishers or affiliates. It’s a low cost way for merchants to sell their products and services and a low cost, low risk way for people to start a business on the Internet.
For the merchants in this business, the overhead is low because they only pay the affiliate when a sale is generated. Once the sale is confirmed, an agreed upon portion of the sale will be paid to the affiliate as a commission. In most cases the affiliate can be paid for referring clicks, leads or sales to the merchant’s web site. The agreed upon commission can be a fixed percentage or a dollar amount.
There are some affiliates that become experts in this field from this simple commission based referral system. There are some that earn more than 5 figures every month. However, based on the thousands of affiliate marketers out there, there are only about 2% that reach that level of success. Those who are fortunate enough to reach that level are generally referred to as “super affiliates”.
What this means is; you are capable of achieving a high percentage of sales or traffic on the merchant’s web site. These super affiliates have become experts in many facets of marketing including SEO (search engine optimization) email marketing, newsletter marketing, keyword optimization, reciprocal linking, joint ventures, forum marketing and other methods of advertising and promotion.
Now, you’re probably wondering how someone becomes a super affiliate. Becoming a super affiliate is certainly not easy and it most certainly won’t happen overnight. Keep in mind that you will need to embrace several tactics, as well as, carrying out effective online strategies and make a large time commitment. You won’t become a super affiliate without giving blood, sweat and a few tears and you must possess the following qualities: a constant thirst for knowledge, lots of patience and loads of drive and determination. If you are someone who has all those qualities and a good efficient strategy, you have the formula that leads to becoming a super affiliate.
You need to work hard at it because affiliate marketing strategies can be a little difficult but they are achievable. The first thing that needs to be done is locate an exceptional and unique niche and focus on it. One of the main reasons why many affiliate marketers don’t become successful or give up too easily is they try to promote every conceivable thing under the sun rather than focus their attention to a particular niche market. If it’s your desire to become a success as an affiliate marketer, don’t lose focus of your niche. Don’t scatter your efforts. Concentrate on your particular market and grow your business by promoting, advertising and effective selling.
Once you have your chosen niche, the next step would be promoting it. Many affiliates resort to pay-per-click methods such as Google Adwords. What might be more advisable is learning how to accomplish organic search results or even hire a search engine marketing company if it’s feasible. By doing so, you may save loads of money experimenting with pay-per-click.
Your next step is to familiarize yourself with your product and get to know your audience. Always keep in mind that credibility builds trust and you can only build your credibility if you know everything about the products and services you are promoting. Nobody is going to make a purchase from you if they don’t trust you. It’s crucial that you spend time learning all about the products and services which you are recommending and in turn, it will make it that much easier to establish yourself and have a web site that converts well and increases your affiliate income.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with promoting products from different merchants. In fact, it’s a good idea to do so because it’s a way of protecting your business from the so-called “famine effect” (Today’s business people feel that having multiple streams of income can possibly save them from the “famine-effect’ of the industry). The strategy of having products from several merchants also provides your web site visitors with several different destinations to choose from. This will also give you an idea of what your visitors are most interested in and which merchant’s products perform better.
As I mentioned earlier, any aspiring affiliate must have a continual thirst for knowledge. This one trait will help you stay updated and on top of all the newest trends. If you have the latest Internet marketing information then you’ll be more likely to know that certain strategies you used several months ago may not work today. Always seek knowledge and try to stay updated on a daily basis. The super affiliates do spend time reading, learning and embracing the many changes that take place in this business.
Last but most important; don’t give up! It’s not an easy business and that’s why you must exercise patience and be persistent. Always check your stats to find out what is working and what isn’t. If the situation calls for it, make the necessary changes.
Now you have a better understanding of what it takes to become a super affiliate. This is worth mentioning again: you must be patient, you must be persistent and you must be knowledgeable. If you can do those things and follow some of the strategies mentioned earlier, you will have a much better chance of achieving super affiliate status
What are some of the strategies you currently use in your affiliate marketing efforts? How are they working for you? Feel free to share some of your experiences both positive and negative.

Inspiring post Robert. Last week I started to look at Clickbank again as Adsense does not seem to perform with my traffic despite optimization. I know most of my visitors are other bloggers and have banner blindness but if I should just find the right product from Clickbank then I could make much more.
Hi Chris,
It’s not easy to make any serious money from Adsense unless you have tons of traffic, multiple blogs or both. You can make more from one ClickBank sale than you would from months of Adsense. I’m sure there are some relevant products on ClickBank or PayDotCom that your visitors would be interested in. I would suggest you try a couple of products and see which ones perform best.
Thanks for visiting and leaving your comment.

Hello jj,
One of the biggest reasons affiliate marketers don’t become successful is: they give up to easily. If you don’t have patience and a strong desire to succeed, it won’t happen. Yes, you do need a thirst for knowledge because this business continues to evolve. You can find new strategies and technology almost daily.
Always a great pleasure hearing from you jj.
Hehe, All newbie affiliates dream to reach that super affiliate status and of course the financial independence that comes with it…
I am half way there and still working away to improve
Nice site, I follow your posts
Hi James,
If a person doesn’t have the dreams of success and financial independence, they should probably try something else. Great that you are half way there. You are doing better than most affiliates.
Your visit and your comments are appreciated and I do hope we’ll see you often. To your great success!
Hi Robert,
for every professional blogger and super affiliates there are millions who install wordpress, create a half crazed blog, and then stick a bunch of AdSense ads, Amazon links, etc right square in the middle of the actual content; the stuff that is supposed to make the blog worthwhile.
On my websites and my blogs I do not put any ads either AdSense or otherwise not because I couldn’t use the income but because I worry about it becoming one big advertisement and thus disenfranchising my readers.
Despite you indicating that affiliate marketing is not a get rich quick scheme but a long process that takes hard work, do you think that the blogosphere, in general, has created an atmosphere that puts focus too much on generating ad rev than on the actual topic or niche they are supposed to be blogging about?
Larry´s last blog ..Tips on Balancing your website designer and programmers.
Hello Larry,
I agree with what you’re saying to a degree and there are many of the so called “adsense farms” out there. There are also many blogs as you mentioned that completely detract from the main content by cluttering their blogs with as many ads as they can possibly squeeze on a page.
On the other hand, there are many bloggers who have advertising on their blogs that is relevant to the content and placed strategically on their pages.
I truly believe that a happy medium can be produced whereby bloggers can monetize their blogs and at the same time give their visitors the content they are seeking.
I do appreciate your visit and your comments and hope you’ll continue to visit in the future. I wish you all the very best in 2010!
