Once you decide to become an affiliate marketer, you’ll begin to realize many of the benefits the industry offers.
The greatest benefits of working from home as an affiliate marketer is being your own boss and having the ability to manage your time. Additionally, there is no long commute to work, you set the hours when you want to work, spend more quality time with your family and set your own earning goals.
I don’t want to give anyone the wrong impression and lead you to believe that working from home as an affiliate marketer is a walk in the park. Yes, there are many benefits but running your own affiliate business from home requires lots of discipline and organizational skills. As most of you are aware, there can be many distractions at home and you need to be certain that you do what’s required every day in order to grow your business and earn a decent income.
In this article, there are 5 basic tips you should follow. This advice should help you manage your time and get organized most effectively and allow you to grow your business as well as earn the income you are seeking.
1. Working Environment
Ideally, you should have a place in your home that you can use as an office to work with no interruptions. It is recommended that you have your own office so you can work with peace and quiet and have the ability to organize your work. Yes, you can work in your PJ’s if that’s your preference.
If you want to be productive, it is extremely important that you have a suitable work environment.
2.Time Commitment
Being an affiliate marketer requires lots of work especially when you’re first starting out and trying to build your business. You need to come up with a schedule of which hours you are going to work and adhere to it. Make certain that you allow a sufficient number of hours each day to work on growing your business. As you know, any number of things can arise while you’re working at home so it’s very important that you are disciplined and don’t allow yourself to get sidetracked and ignore your business.
3. Tools Of The Trade
If you want to work from home as an online marketer and be successful, there are certain tools that are necessary. The most obvious tools you will need are; a computer, preferably a fast internet connection and a printer. Those are the absolute minimum tools to get started. Once you achieve some success, you can reinvest some of your earnings in additional tools and resources. Run your business as a professional and you’ll find it easier to become successful.
4. Interact
Always try to interact with like minded people. If you can find a mentor to work with, that would be ideal. It is highly recommended that you stay on top of all new developments and strategies in your market. By interacting with other affiliate marketers, you can obtain some great advice and business tips. There are many marketing forums and discussion groups you can participate in. There is also an abundance of free resources available on the Internet. This business is constantly evolving so it pays to continually learn all you can.
5. Practice Good Health
As online marketers, we want results as quickly as possible. That usually means putting in long hours working day and night. We all want to see some success and those big commission checks. However, it’s more important that you don’t neglect your health. Don’t overdo it. Take breaks during the day, exercise regularly and be sure to get enough sleep. Your health is the most important thing you have so take care of it.
Hopefully, these few tips will put you on the right track towards building a successful affiliate marketing business. If some of you more experienced affiliates have some additional advice, please feel free to share it in your comments.

Hi Robert, Excellent tips for those aspiring to be an affiliate marketer. I will admit that we all tend to start off thinking of affiliate marketing as being an easy way to make money. It can be a great way to make extra income, but the down side of it is like you mentioned one has to be focused on the job at hand which can mean putting in extra work (let’s say it’s not a walk in the park)lol. I also like your suggestion about being open to learning and using the resources that we have at hand on the internet to get involved in forums or get a mentor in the business. All great tips that even the veterans will find useful. Thanks for the info. jj

Hello jj,
Unfortunately, many people are led to believe this is an easy business. As we acquire the necessary skills it does become easier. For those just starting out, it requires hard work, determination, focus and patience. It can be very rewarding but it won’t happen overnight.
As always, it’s a pleasure seeing you here and reading your comments. I wish you only great success in 2010!
Hello, nice snappy post. Affiliate marketing definitely takes allot of time and drive. In my experience I have found that there is soo much to learn but also so much opportunity out there that its very easy to get bogged down with things that dont matter or switch opportunities to often. Affiliate marketing will only pay of to those who are consistent and put in the hard work.
Hello Daniel,
Everything you mentioned is right on the money. With the abundance of resources and offers out there, it’s very easy to get caught up in all the hype and begin to suffer from the dreaded “info overload”. Not only does it take consistency and hard work but lots of patience as well.
Your visit and comments here are greatly appreciated and I hope you’ll come by often. To your great success!

Hi lawmacs,
Yes, it is great to work at home and be your own boss. There is also a great deal of responsibility that goes along with it. You must commit yourself to it as you would any job or business if you want to reap the rewards.
Great hearing from you again and I hope to see you here often. Make 2010 your best year ever!
Hi Robert,
Health it is one of the most forgotten issues when being online. We tend to be long hours a day on the comp, depriving sleep I guess is one of the biggest problems when starting out.
Sometimes being online can be addictive. The problem is since I like it I do not perceive all those hours at day and night as work and therefore I keep awake, depriving my sleep, which could be very dangerous and end up in a serious illness.
Besides other problems, like back pain, all this may happen if we do not take a little break.
Good advice, Robert. You make me remember than Health it is a very serious issue not to be forgotten.
Regards,
Luis

Hello Luis,
Our health is important and that’s why I made mention of it. I’m much like you because I have a tendency to remain online for hours and don’t realize how much time has passed. I think I’m getting better at managing my time but still need to work on it.
Always great hearing from you and I very much appreciate your visits and comments. All my best to you!
That’s really cool tips to follow.
Hello Devang,
Glad you liked the tips and I do appreciate your visit here. Hope you’ll stop by often. All my best to you!
Robert, I think that you hit my main concerns with working online. People have asked me if there are any drawbacks to working online, and your answers are pretty close to the answers I give them. I tell them to look at five areas when figuring out if this is good for them, or worthwhile. I normally tell them to consider who they are working for, which gets to the same point as your number 5. Online jobs can be more stressful than office jobs, depending on who you work for. Thanks for the post.
Hi,
Glad to know we’re on the same wavelength. You’re right about certain jobs being more stressful but I feel that many people put to much pressure on themselves. If working online stresses someone out to the point where it begins to affect their health, maybe they should try something else. Even though jobs are very difficult to come by these days, is it worth risking your health? This applies to working online or offline.
Thanks for stopping by and posting your comments. I hope to see more of you in the future. All my best to you!
Thanks Robert! I agree, if it starts affecting your health, move on to something else. I think you can boil it all down to productivity and time management. If you can’t figure those two things out… then you’d better forget working at home.
I agree. Well designed website with great tips. More and more people are turning to running a business online, because nowadays its scary out there and you can only count on yourself to succeed. And who wants a boss anyways lol. Who is a better boss than yourself?

Hi Jason,
There’s nothing like being your own boss.
Yes, with the economy the way it is and not much security with a 9-5 job, more people than ever are looking for opportunities to work at home.
Thank for the compliments and I really appreciate your visit and your comments. Wish you all the best with your online endeavors.
You’ve got to be dedicated and continuously analyze your efforts. There are days that it just drags, and you want to know where you can get better traffic, can you write a better article.
However, the persistence can pay off, and sometimes it doesn’t hurt to take a chance on something new. What I’ve found to be a good traffic getter is to go where the traffic already is. Don’t underestimate the ability to guest post. And blogs getting plenty of readers shouldn’t underestimate their ability to allow others to advertise on their sites.
What’s been getting people to my list is advertising a text link on a high-ranking blog for my niche. I can’t compete with the guy obviously, but I can have access to his traffic. He has no problem with me paying $50 a month to put a text-link on his site. He gets money. I get traffic. It’s a great trade-off.
As long as I have a quality product and his blog gives me quality traffic, I say it’s worth the investment. A better ROI in some cases than PPC.

Hello Gina,
That’s some great advice and tips you gave. I think we all like to try new things to see what works best. In this business it’s critical that we constantly test new methods and strategies or we may end up losing lots of visitors and potential customers.
Not all “newbies” can afford to pay $50.00 per month to place a link on someone’s site but I know it works if used properly on the correct sites.
Your visit and comments here are greatly appreciated and I do hope you’ll visit us often. To your success!
Hey Robert
I think that most people don’t get the part about having to do work. Affiliate marketing requires work, and if you aren’t prepared to do some, then you aren’t prepared to succeed.
It still amazes me how many folks keep searching for the “instant answer” for “overnight” wealth and success in the hope they won’t have to do any work tomorrow.
You have to start realistically and expect to work to get success. With the right expectations, it all gets a lot easier to deal with.
Wayne Sharer
Hello Wayne,
Absolutely right! I think many people get caught up in all the hype about instant wealth, easy money, make money while sleeping, etc, etc.
It really doesn’t matter what business you’re in, to be successful, hard work, determination and patience are still required.
As always, it’s great seeing you here and your comments are appreciated. Wish you all the best!
To elaborate on Wayne’s comment, most people are L-A-Z-Y.

I’m sure the “70 hour work week” would not sell even if it had all the success tips in the world.
E´s last blog ..Puck In Sunny Beaches
Hi E,
Absolutely correct. Why do you think there are so many products being promoting with headlines such as “lazy man’s way to wealth”? As long as people keep looking for ways to make money without doing any work, those products will continue to sell.
As always, your comments and visits are appreciated.
Affiliate marketing is tough business; no wonder countless affiliates struggle to make mere pennies. This is a great post with excellent tips for newbie as well as established affiliates.
Yes, affiliate marketing isn’t easy but the rewards can be great. It takes lots of hard work, dedication and patience.
Glad you liked the article and I do thank you for stopping by to post a comment.
To your success!
