Increase Affiliate Sales By Communicating With Merchants
If you’re looking for ways to increase your affiliate sales, a most effective way to do that is by contacting the merchant. Not only is this a way to increase sales but you’ll also save yourself some time and frustration.
Nobody will know a product better than the merchant. They also know what methods and strategies the other affiliates are using to effectively market those products. By contacting the merchant, you not only demonstrate enthusiasm but you also show a sincere desire to succeed.
Most merchants have a good understanding of affiliate marketing and they are very much aware of the fact that most of the sales are generated by a small percentage of affiliates. Any reputable merchant will realize your efforts and want you to succeed. Generally, they will provide you with resources, information and in some cases, they might even increase your commission.
Communicating With The Merchant
Always try emailing a merchant at least two times. If you don’t get a response by the second email, you should seriously consider discontinuing the program. If a merchant does not respond after a couple of emails, that should indicate that they may have some problems. It may also indicate problems with receiving your hard earned commissions.
Keep in mind that there are some merchants that make big promises, and set a high payout rate knowing that very few affiliates will actually meet it. This isn’t a good way to do business, and you should avoid working with these types of merchants.
Always communicate in a professional tone when you contact a merchant. Let the merchant know exactly what methods you are using to promote their products and request suggestions on other ways to market their product or service. Be sure to make them aware of any suggestions you might have that will improve their offer. Most merchants really do appreciate new ideas that may help to better market their products.
You will find that merchants respect you because they are very aware of the fact that good affiliates are difficult to find. They will be more supportive and help with all available resources, as well as seeing that your payments are made on time. The same holds true for affiliates because they know merchants want quality sales and promotion.
Being professional and understanding with your merchants will help you get the most out of the partnership. Don’t assume that a merchant isn’t good if they don’t respond to you right away. The best merchants are always busy. It may take a little time but you will get a reply to your emails and questions.
Obviously, the longer you work with a merchant, the better you’ll get to know them and understand how they do things. If you are relatively new to affiliate marketing, the merchants can be a great resource for understanding how things work. You really can make a big difference to your success when you listen to the merchant and show some initiative.
Have you worked with your affiliate product merchants? If so, what has been your experience?

Great advice. I myself have found that if you do this initiative, some even appreciate you better and actually give more support on several things. Once, I even had a merchant sent me some of their best performing products for me to run on my websites and it was a great help. Like you said, you should approach them (not stalk them) and be professional about it. be patient as most of them will reply to you. If they don’t, it is probably a good time to find other partners who are willing to give you some support.

Hello DiTesco
Sounds like you’ve had some positive results by contacting merchants. I’ve found that in most cases, contacting a merchant will provide you with great advice and some additional resources. There was one merchant who not only gave me some marketing tips but he also created a special banner ad for my web site.
As always, great hearing from you again.
Hi Robert,
Great post and good information. I for one do practice what you talked about here. In fact I have several merchants that also have replied with great results and they really do want us to succeed. I have also contacted many of my affiliates and one in particular has gone the distance in order to help boost my sales. I had relayed to him that I felt I was not getting the ads/money that i should be getting and did he have any helpful hints. I really didn’t expect several emails of back ‘n’ forth with several great tips and even some truly informative advertising background info. that one doesn’t always get at this level. My sales went up and we both were happy campers at the end. It was priceless. Good info.Robert and it helps others know that we do have choices and that we (bloggers) are needed to sell those ads for the affiliates or merchants. jj

There are so many benefits of contacting the merchants. you can do interviews to help increase conversions and response.
You can build a powerful relationship with the product owner and partner on an upsell.
the potential is unlimited, hiding behind the scenes is not a very good way to do business, in a business that is built on networks relationships and trust.
