Those are the types of comments you generally hear from those people who have no understanding of this business. Let me assure you that marketing on the Internet does work. If you need further proof, why not ask some of the marketers who consistently earn thousands of dollars each and every month. In fact, there are some who earn millions from marketing online. Do you know what the difference is between those who fail and those who succeed? The ones who succeed don’t believe all the negative talk, myths and lies about this business.

Here are some of the most common myths about the Internet marketing business:

1. It’s so easy to make money on the Internet.
If you think it’s easy to make money on the Internet without doing much work, you’re not being realistic and you’re probably dreaming. We’ve all heard the incredible stories about those people who make 5 or 6 figure incomes in no time at all. Well, those overnight success stories are exactly that–stories! Don’t believe all those stories you hear about some “gurus” becoming wealthy overnight by selling a product or information. The real truth to that myth is it usually takes many months if not years to become a financial success. They work very hard preparing, planning and creating joint ventures. When all that is done, they continue to work and work even harder.

2. It’s takes a lot of money to start an online business.

There are many online businesses that can be started with very little or no up front investment at all. Becoming an affiliate marketer by joining a good affiliate program is one way that many people earn their income. Your primary task as an affiliate marketer is to sell other people’s products and services by focusing on the promotion and marketing. All the other tasks such as product development, product delivery and customer issues are handled by the merchant. If you have a computer with Internet access and have the drive and determination, you can start an affiliate marketing business with little or no up front expense. As you begin to earn some money, you should re-invest it in your business and get the tools and programs that will make your marketing tasks easier and eventually earn you significantly more income.

3. You need to be a techno wizard, graphic designer or programmer to start an internet business.

Nothing could be further from the truth. It might help to be knowledgeable about some of those things but in all actuality, you don’t need those skills at all. Many of the biggest names in Internet marketing have no clue how to build a web site or blog. What they do is either establish joint ventures with those who can compensate for their lack of knowledge or they’ll outsource it to the pros who have the skills in those areas. Quite frankly, the most successful people in the business are successful because they focus on the areas that bring them the best results. Bottom line is; if you want to create web sites without learning all the necessary skills, go out and find the pros that do.

4. You don’t need to know how to market or sell on the internet.
How many times have you seen ads that state: “no selling required”. Those claims make no sense at all and being realistic, how can you make any money without doing any selling or marketing? Personally, I feel those programs are not workable and probably run by fly-by-night operators. In Internet marketing of any type, you’ll get your best results by informing potential customers about the features and benefits of your product. The real way to make a sale without selling, is to show people how they can benefit and how their lives could change with what you have to offer. That is the correct way to make a sale without selling.

5. You don’t need to build a mailing list.
You might as well be saying; “I really don’t want to be in this business.” I know you’ve heard the statement: “the money is in the list” countless times from all the marketing gurus. Your mailing list will become your greatest asset but you need to use it wisely. More important than the list itself is the relationship you build with the people on your list. Once you build trust and relationships with the people on your list, you’ll be on the road to success and much bigger earnings. It’s worth mentioning again that you should always keep in mind, you are not selling but rather letting people know how much they can benefit from your product.

The internet marketing myths I mentioned are only a few of the things that can make a difference between failure and success. You can’t believe everything you hear. In this business, it’s always best to do some research and learn all you can and then form your own conclusions.
