If you’ve been following this series, you should now have a better understanding of what the gravity score is and why it’s so important when choosing a product from the ClickBank Market Place. You should also know what to look for and how to evaluate a sales letter. Both of those items should be given priority when selecting a product you want to promote.

Now it’s time to move ahead and discuss the commissions, cost and continuity. As I mentioned in the first and second parts of this series, it takes more than a gravity score when looking for a profitable product. It also depends on how effective the sales letter is in converting a potential customer into a buyer. In addition to both of those things, you need to know the commission rate, the cost of the product and it’s continuity.

Before you begin to promote a product, it is very important that you take all these factors into consideration. Remember, you will be investing your time, energy and perhaps some advertising dollars if you promote the product in the best possible way. So, you should also consider the the following things.

How much commission does the product pay?
I would suggest that you, as an affiliate, should look for products that pay a commission of $20 per sale or higher. There are products that offer commissions that are lower but it usually isn’t worth all the time and effort if you promote them heavily. If you plan to spend money on advertising the product, it would be difficult to make a good return on your investment. Depending on the market you are in, there are always exceptions but you can use this as a guideline when considering a product.

Regardless of whether you are promoting a lower priced product or a higher priced product, the amount of effort you put into promoting them will generally be the same. Within the ClickBank Marketplace, you are going to find products that sell for only a few dollars up to a few hundred dollars. What you need to do is find one that meets your guidelines and is a good overall fit into your marketing strategies.

What does the product cost?
The selling price of the product is an important factor. If the price of the product is set to low, it means less commission for you but more importantly, it can lead potential customers into believing that the product may be of little or no value to them. Alternatively, some of the higher priced products can have a negative impact because some potential buyers might not make an immediate purchase. Once a visitor takes time to think about making a purchase, the chances are very good that they will leave and never come back. Obviously, you’re not going to buy every product to see if it’s worth the price so you need to use good judgment when considering which products to promote. If you feel the product will give good value to your customer and you have confidence in it, those should be your main concerns.

Is this a continuity product?
Additionally, continuity products also known as residual income products is something else you need to consider. I’m sure you’ve seen those products that offer a monthly membership program to their customers. Those type of programs can be a very rewarding addition to the products you promote. Generally, these memberships programs pay you on a regular basis as long as the customer remains a member.

Don’t be put off by the lower commissions rates that are offered by these products. Remember, you will be earning a residual income from them, which over time, means you have the opportunity to make much more money.

Once again, it takes the same effort to market continuity products as it does any of the others. Just be certain that your criteria for choosing these products is met in the same way as any other.

Now you can see that choosing profitable products from ClickBank does take a little time and research. But, that is time well spent because in the long run, you will save yourself valuable time, effort and money and not promote products that don’t make you any money.

When it comes to determining which products to promote, use the best criteria for your business. That should include, the proper gravity score, a well written sales page, good commission payout and the selling price of the product. In most cases, matching up a product with your criteria should give you confidence that you’ve chosen a good product.

I realize that many of you promote products from the ClickBank Marketplace and others may be interested in getting started. However, a common problem that seems to exist is; how to choose a profitable product. This is part one of a three part series on how to choose profitable products from the ClickBank Marketplace.

Before promoting any of the products on ClickBank, you should have a set criteria that you can use that will help determine if a product is worth the time, effort and in some cases, money.

The main things that should be given careful consideration are the commission rates, gravity, competition, sales page and the selling price of the product.

One of the first things you should check is the gravity score that you’ll find on every ClickBank product. You need to know what it is and how it helps you chose a product to promote. The gravity score seems to puzzle some affiliate marketers so we’ll discuss what it is and how it works. According to ClickBank, the gravity score is as follows:

“Grav”: Short for Gravity, this number represents a unique calculation by ClickBank that takes into account the number of different affiliates who earned a commission by promoting this product over the past 12 weeks. Since more recent transactions are given a higher value, this number can give you an idea of what products are “hot” at the moment, in terms of being promoted by many affiliates and making a good number of sales. However, high gravity is also an indicator that there will be a lot of competition in promoting this product.”

In other words, a high gravity score indicates that affiliates are making lots of commission from that particular product. A low gravity score means there haven’t been many affiliate sales of that product. So, now you can see that the gravity score is a primary factor of how well a product is selling.

Always keep in mind the fact that a large number of affiliates promoting a product will make it more difficult to make a sale. You should also look at the referral percentage (%refd) of all products you’re interested in promoting and look for those that are around 65% or less. That number tells you that 65% of all sales were referred by affiliates. The lower the percentage, the less competition. That is also another indicator of how competitive a product is.

There’s nothing wrong with promoting products with high gravity scores but you need to be aware that you’ll be up against a lot of competition. On the plus side, you’ll know that those products are selling well and there’s a strong market for them.

There are loads of valuable products on ClickBank that have a much lower gravity score which means less competition but it’s your choice. However, I do recommend that you choose products with a gravity score from a low of 25 to 100 or slightly above. Anything less than 25 will not make you any money regardless of how hard you promote them.

Once you have chosen a couple of products that meet your criteria based on gravity, you’ll be ready to evaluate some of the other variables such as commissions, product cost and the sales letter.

Now that you have a better understanding of what the gravity score means, you should be more confident that you are choosing products that are going to be the most profitable ones to promote.

Most online marketers are convinced that affiliate marketing is an excellent way to earn money to either supplement their wages or make it their primary source of income. Unfortunately, there are very few (less than 5%) affiliates who actually earn a significant amount of money. One of the biggest reasons why so many people fail is the fact that they give up to soon. They will promote a few products and when the results aren’t immediate, they give up and feel that affiliate marketing isn’t a viable method of earning online and the programs just don’t work.

The truth of the matter is, there are many good affiliate programs out there. One of the most credible and reliable is ClickBank and it’s especially good for those who are just starting out. The biggest problem you’ll have with ClickBank is the amount of competition you’ll be up against. Most affiliate marketers, whether seasoned pros or “newbies” currently promote ClickBank’s digital products but don’t let that deter you in any way because there is still lots of money to be made selling digital products. As of this writing, ClickBank has paid out an astounding 1.5 billion dollars.

Due to the explosive growth of people searching for and purchasing information on the Internet, it makes perfect sense to promote digital products. One of the greatest advantages of selling a digital product is the fact that the customer gets to download their purchase immediately after payment. People are willing to pay for quality information especially when it contains a solution to a problem and they have instant access to it.

Many different techniques and sales strategies are used to promote the products that ClickBank offers via their marketplace. The most important thing you need to decide on is how you’re going to drive traffic to your affiliate offers. The most common and effective ways to do that are paying for ads through programs such as Google Adwords or some other pay-per-click resource or focusing on creating some content rich authority blogs or web sites. You’ll be able to embed your affiliate links, banners, videos, etc. on your sites. If possible, it would be ideal to utilize both methods.

An essential ingredient to pay-per-click advertising is the type of traffic you send to your affiliate offers. If you want to increase your conversion rate, it’s extremely important that you send highly targeted traffic or you’ll end up spending lots of money with little ROI (return on investment). With most ClickBank products you shouldn’t have a problem bidding on the product name because in most cases they aren’t copyrighted and the product creator knows you are sending them additional traffic and ultimately, new customers.

A big benefit of bidding on a product name is in most cases, the traffic is already pre-sold and the conversion rate should be much higher. You always want to choose products that are high quality and have high “gravity”. High “gravity” on ClickBank means the product converts well, however, it also means there will be lots of competition from other affiliates. Be certain you always review the merchant’s sales page and make sure it has all the elements of a great sales pitch and you find it convincing enough that you wouldn’t hesitate purchasing the product for yourself.

Consider building a review style landing page for each product as it is recommended that you have a separate landing page for each product. Another reason for separate landing pages is the fact that some pay-per-click providers want unique landing pages for each product. You should also be prepared to bid relatively high on the product keywords and phrases. Generally speaking, expect that you will end up paying at least .50 per click since there will be competition for the same keywords but the ROI will be worth the expense.

Always be on the lookout for new products on ClickBank. There are new ones added every week and the good ones become popular very quick. If you’re fast, you can get your ads up for a much lower cost. You can use the search functions that ClickBank provides to find the newest products and there are many free and paid tools that will notify you of any of the new products that get launched. You’ll find that Clickbank offers loads of free tools for both the affiliate and the merchant so I suggest you spend some time there and check them out.

PayDotCom is another very popular affiliate network. You can earn sales commissions up to 80%. Payments are accepted and sent out through Paypal (rather than by check). Affiliates receive their commissions monthly (rather than bi-monthly). PayDotCom’s fee to the affiliate is $0.50 to $1.50 for each transaction based on the selling price of the product. May not be as well know as previous networks mentioned but still an excellent resource for affiliates and vendors. Plimus offers affiliates a wide range of products to chose from including; software, digital products, games, online services and general items. The Plimus Affiliate Network has a reputation for outstanding customer support. They offer advanced reporting for both affiliate and merchants which enables you to track clicks, amount of visits per sale and more. There is also a learning center to help you get started. Cookies are stored on potential customers computers for a full year (providing they don’t clear their cookies).
