It seems that nowadays, quite a few bloggers are utilizing their blogs to generate some income as affiliate marketers. The amount of income that these blogs generate will vary quite a bit depending on the amount of traffic and the type of commission being received from the various affiliate programs. Basically, the affiliate places a banner or link to the merchant’s web site and is compensated according to a previously agreed on contract. There are several ways in which the blog owner can be compensated. I’ve always been fascinated by many of the success stories I read about and how they we’re able to achieve such great success. Many of those people inspire me and in some cases motivate me. Successful people are curious and always hunger for more knowledge. They never stop reading, studying or asking questions. It appears that successful people want to know all they can about anything and everything.

Winners never quit
Just like anyone else, they have their failures but the difference is, they use those failures as learning experiences and do it better next time. Successful people continually work to improve themselves. They work on all details of their life including personality, management, communication and leadership skills. They refuse to accept mistakes. When things go wrong, they correct them.

All work and no play?
Not at all. They all work very hard but they also play just as hard. You will rarely hear any of these people complain about getting up early in the morning. They recognize that achieving a high level of success comes from hard work. These are people who expect a high level of performance from others but more importantly, they expect an even higher level of performance from themselves.

Why? Why not? Why not me? Why not now?
They have a why not attitude and they are extremely creative. When others see problems or limitations, successful people see new opportunities and possibilities. They are always looking for ways to do things more efficiently and they don’t hesitate to seek advice and try new methods.

Networking
Successful people are great listeners and they are always willing to listen to their co-workers, friends, neighbors and even the local bartender. They are always networking and know lots of people from every walk of life. Successful people place a lot of value on their personal relationships. There is a great deal of mutual respect from all their friends and personal contacts.

It’s not your fault
You won’t see very many successful people wasting time complaining or trying to figure out who to blame. They usually take responsibility and move on. A large part of being successful is the willingness to take the initiative as well as accepting the responsibilities that lead to becoming a success.

Don’t worry, be happy
You’ll find that most successful people are generally relaxed and know how to keep things in perspective. They know how to keep things evenly balanced during the most difficult and stressful times. It’s not very often that you will see a highly successful person in a state of panic. Even during a time of crisis, they are able to make good decisions.

Living life to the fullest
Successful people seem to have the ability to look a person in the eye and listen to what is being said. They know how to enjoy things such as music, fine wine, a good meal or even playing with a child. They also appear to never be in a rush, yet they get so much done. Successful people don’t waste time and they take full advantage of each and every day. They always “live for the moment”.

Actions speak louder than words
When things aren’t working out as well as they should, successful people respond immediately and change it. If an opportunity presents itself, they act upon it. If one of their investments isn’t producing as well as they thought it would, they sell it. If an important relationship is dwindling away, they take the time to renew it. If a competitor or a new technology comes along, they make the necessary adjustments. The point is, they respond and do it quickly.

Somewhere over the rainbow
They have that uncanny ability to look beyond the horizon. What others seem to miss, successful people see. They observe and notice changes, trends and shifts. Although successful people live in the here and now, they always have an eye on the future.

None of these traits are inherited and every one of them can be learned. All of them are free and can be used by anyone. They all work together giving repeated success to those who use them wisely. Anyone who has a thirst for learning, the ability to respond to change, maintains strong relationships and builds a solid reserve of goodwill, has the requirements to become very successful.

If you’ve been following this series, you should now have a better understanding of what the gravity score is and why it’s so important when choosing a product from the ClickBank Market Place. You should also know what to look for and how to evaluate a sales letter. Both of those items should be given priority when selecting a product you want to promote.

Now it’s time to move ahead and discuss the commissions, cost and continuity. As I mentioned in the first and second parts of this series, it takes more than a gravity score when looking for a profitable product. It also depends on how effective the sales letter is in converting a potential customer into a buyer. In addition to both of those things, you need to know the commission rate, the cost of the product and it’s continuity.

Before you begin to promote a product, it is very important that you take all these factors into consideration. Remember, you will be investing your time, energy and perhaps some advertising dollars if you promote the product in the best possible way. So, you should also consider the the following things.

How much commission does the product pay?
I would suggest that you, as an affiliate, should look for products that pay a commission of $20 per sale or higher. There are products that offer commissions that are lower but it usually isn’t worth all the time and effort if you promote them heavily. If you plan to spend money on advertising the product, it would be difficult to make a good return on your investment. Depending on the market you are in, there are always exceptions but you can use this as a guideline when considering a product.

Regardless of whether you are promoting a lower priced product or a higher priced product, the amount of effort you put into promoting them will generally be the same. Within the ClickBank Marketplace, you are going to find products that sell for only a few dollars up to a few hundred dollars. What you need to do is find one that meets your guidelines and is a good overall fit into your marketing strategies.

What does the product cost?
The selling price of the product is an important factor. If the price of the product is set to low, it means less commission for you but more importantly, it can lead potential customers into believing that the product may be of little or no value to them. Alternatively, some of the higher priced products can have a negative impact because some potential buyers might not make an immediate purchase. Once a visitor takes time to think about making a purchase, the chances are very good that they will leave and never come back. Obviously, you’re not going to buy every product to see if it’s worth the price so you need to use good judgment when considering which products to promote. If you feel the product will give good value to your customer and you have confidence in it, those should be your main concerns.

Is this a continuity product?
Additionally, continuity products also known as residual income products is something else you need to consider. I’m sure you’ve seen those products that offer a monthly membership program to their customers. Those type of programs can be a very rewarding addition to the products you promote. Generally, these memberships programs pay you on a regular basis as long as the customer remains a member.

Don’t be put off by the lower commissions rates that are offered by these products. Remember, you will be earning a residual income from them, which over time, means you have the opportunity to make much more money.

Once again, it takes the same effort to market continuity products as it does any of the others. Just be certain that your criteria for choosing these products is met in the same way as any other.

Now you can see that choosing profitable products from ClickBank does take a little time and research. But, that is time well spent because in the long run, you will save yourself valuable time, effort and money and not promote products that don’t make you any money.

When it comes to determining which products to promote, use the best criteria for your business. That should include, the proper gravity score, a well written sales page, good commission payout and the selling price of the product. In most cases, matching up a product with your criteria should give you confidence that you’ve chosen a good product.

As an affiliate, you’ll be able to work for yourself and rather than build a new business, you’ll be growing an existing one. In this business, if you do not perform well, you will struggle.

The next step which should be given careful consideration are the products you plan to promote. It’s always best to choose products or services you’re familiar with or have used personally. By doing so, you will sound more sincere with your marketing efforts. Of course, you will also want to see if the products are salable. Even though you are familiar with or have used the product yourself, it doesn’t mean others will buy it. Without buyers, there’s no point in promoting it. You can research the company and find out how well their products sell. Also find out what the return rate is. Don’t be taken in by all the hype such as; “the sky is the limit” or “our affiliates are earning thousands per day” type speeches. You need to know what “you” can realistically achieve.

Last but certainly not least, don’t go into this business with unrealistic expectations. One of the biggest reasons that many online businesses fail is the lack of immediate results. This isn’t much different than any other business. It takes time and a lot of hard work. The more you put into it, the more lucrative it will become. Once you know what’s realistic, set your goals and go for it. If you exceed your goals, that’s even better

Generally speaking, there are two really great types of buyers. These people will make a purchase no matter what the current state of the economy is.

The first group is known as the “desperate” buyer. These are people that have a problem and are looking for an immediate solution. They might be facing a financial crisis such as foreclosure on their home or they might be in some type of emotional or physical pain. In both of those cases, they want a quick solution and they’ll be searching for one with credit card in hand.

The second group of buyers is known as the “passionate” or “rabid” buyer. I’ll bet you know some people like that. You might even be one yourself. This is the type of person who will buy just about anything and everything on a certain topic. It could be golf or food and cooking or dogs or weight loss and on and on. This type of buyer might also purchase anything new from a certain manufacturer. Remember the Beanie Babies?

When you find a group of people who all have a common interest, it is called a niche. However, not all niches have buyers. The niches with buyers is called a niche market. Now, we don’t just want a niche market, what we want is a niche market filled with red-hot buyers.

Now that we know what we’re looking for, where are we going to find these red-hot buyers? There are many places to search but first, you should keep your eyes and ears open. What are some of the things that your relatives and friends simply can’t live without? What are the popular personalities such as Oprah talking about?

One of the absolute best ways to find hot buyers is to look at what the hot sellers are. By using this method, you will actually kill two birds with one stone. You will not only find hot markets but you’ll also find the products that are popular with the buyers.

For example, nearly all marketplaces such as eBay, Amazon, ClickBank and the like, will also have a list of hot products.

Let’s say I’m looking for a product with hot buyers. If we look under the “Health & Fitness Category” with the subcategory “Diet” at ClickBank, we see products which are listed in Clickbank’s definition of “most popular”. Currently, the top two products are “Fat Loss For Idiots” and “Burn The Fat Feed The Muscle”.

Now you should have a better understanding of how to find a product but more importantly, where to find the buyers. The ideas I listed are just a few ways of finding products and buyers and I hope this points you in the right direction. What are some of the methods you use to find products or buyers?

Every once in a while, I get asked the following question: “what are some of the best ways to choose an affiliate program”? So, I thought it might be a good idea to list some tips that can be used as a guide when choosing an affiliate program. Here are some of the things you may want to consider when choosing your next affiliate program:

1. This is interesting
Always look for affiliate programs that you have an interest in. If you find a product or service that you wouldn’t hesitate to purchase for yourself, in most cases, it will be something you would want to promote. You’ll also be enthusiastic about the product or service and prospects can usually sense that. If you have an interest, chances are, there will be many others who will have a similar interest in the product.

2. A growing market
Try to find programs that have a growing market. Basically, you want to be certain that there will be a continual demand for the product you are promoting. Doing some research on places such as Google Trends or eBay Pulse will assist you greatly. You can also visit some related marketing forums and discussion groups to ask questions and get reliable feedback.

3. The highest standards
You should search for high quality programs. Generally speaking, it’s a good idea to find programs in a particular industry that are associated with several experts. By doing so, you can generally be assured that the program you are considering is of high standards.

4. Viable and credible
Of course you’ll want to join programs that offer viable products. You can determine that by doing a little research. If at all possible, try to contact a few customers or other affiliate members so you can get their testimonial regarding the credibility of the program or product.

5. Time is money
Don’t waste your time and effort with programs that don’t reward you well. There are many programs available that offer high commissions as well as residual income. If you find one that offers both, you’ll earn a much better income. There are many digital products that pay commissions of 75% and you’ll find most service products pay a residual income.

6. Prerequisites and quotas…oh my
There are some affiliate programs that impose a prerequisite before you earn any commissions. In other words, you need to reach a certain quota or number of sales before you see any payment. Some of those quotas can be difficult to achieve and I don’t recommend them unless you are very confident that you can achieve the requirements.

7. Resources galore
Always look for programs that have lots of resources and training materials that you can use for your promotions. You want to consider programs that offer resources such as; text ads, banners, emails, articles, etc. Some of the better affiliate programs also have training materials to help with your promotions and show you methods to earn more money. You will also find that there are programs which offer only an affiliate link for your promotion. I wouldn’t recommend those programs unless you have ways to promote your link via a subscriber list or you’re experienced with pay-per-click (PPC) advertising.

8. Statistics and commissions
Choose programs that allow you to check your stats and your commission. These stats should be made available to you from anywhere and at anytime you choose.

9. More is better
Does the program offer any additional incentives? Look for additional sources of income through back-end sales or residual income. Some programs will offer valuable prizes to top performers. Also check and see if the program continually provides upgrades to their products as well as, help for it’s members.

10. Last but not least
Finally, be on the lookout for any program members that are not satisfied or disgruntled with a particular program. You can usually find those people who are having problems at the discussion forums or marketing groups. If you know someone who is already a member of an affiliate program, ask them if they experienced or know of any problems. A little research can save you loads of grief and frustration.

Once you’ve done your research and are knowledgeable about the affiliate programs, it will help you determine if a certain program is right for you. You’ll also have the ability to promote with confidence and not worry about the downsides that some affiliate marketers encounter.
