Most of us have experienced some type of failure in our lives. It could be a failure in business, relationships, achieving goals or just about anything else. The key is to view these failures as temporary setbacks and use them as stepping stones towards success. Those failures can be used as teaching tools that let you know what works and what doesn’t.

Are you a person who views failure as a negative or do you see it as something positive? If you’re like the majority of people, you do not like failure. The main reason why a great majority of people around the world don’t change their circumstances is because they are afraid of failing. Why is it that so many people people have this fear of failing? The primary reason is they do not understand all the dynamics involved between failure and success.

There is a wrong way and right way to do just about anything we’re faced with in our lives. Obviously, when we do things the wrong way, we will not achieve success but when we do things the right way, we achieve the desired results. Once we have an understanding of this, it removes the fear surrounding it and puts failure in it’s proper perspective.

In most cases, when a person meets with a temporary failure, they tend to give up and start thinking that they aren’t good enough or they will never achieve success. Is this really what it’s all about? Just because you don’t make it the first time, does that mean you’re not good enough? Does it mean you should quit because you’ll never make it? Absolutely not! What it really means is; you haven’t found the right methods yet.

What do you think your next step should be? What you need to do is go back and see if you can find out where you went wrong or made a mistake. You may need to take a close look at everything you did up this point. Talk to some successful people who have accomplished what you’re trying to do. Think of anything you might have left out. Then you need to give it another try but this time you are going try a different approach or method.

No matter what you do, you should never give up. Why should you keep on going? I think Napoleon Hill, the great author and mentor answers that question best when he said: “Every failure, every adversity and every heartache, carries with it the seed of an equivalent or greater benefit. Failure contains the seed of victory and great success.”

When you examine the reasons that you failed and are able to learn from it, you’ll be able to find the key to your success. As I mentioned earlier, failure is a tool that teaches what works and what doesn’t. I think the great Thomas Edison probably knew this better than anyone. Did you know it took him about 8,000 tries to perfect the Edison battery? His famous quote came right after that when he said: “At least we know 8,000 things that don’t work.”

If you want to achieve success, you need to be like that. All successful people have overcome some temporary setbacks at one time or another. The only time you really fail is when you accept defeat. If you envy people who achieve success early and easily, stop doing that. A success that is earned in spite of some earlier failures is much greater than if you get it otherwise. The people who earn success by overcoming obstacles and setbacks know the road to success and they aren’t afraid to lose what they have because they know what it takes to become successful. The few who got success easily really don’t know how to get there.

Don’t let those temporary setbacks and obstacles keep you from achieving your goal. Most of us have some hidden talents so start working to achieve your dreams and desires. Don’t let the fear of failing stop you from getting what you want. Remember, failure is your ally and it contains the seed of your success.

Most online marketers are convinced that affiliate marketing is an excellent way to earn money to either supplement their wages or make it their primary source of income. Unfortunately, there are very few (less than 5%) affiliates who actually earn a significant amount of money. One of the biggest reasons why so many people fail is the fact that they give up to soon. They will promote a few products and when the results aren’t immediate, they give up and feel that affiliate marketing isn’t a viable method of earning online and the programs just don’t work.

The truth of the matter is, there are many good affiliate programs out there. One of the most credible and reliable is ClickBank and it’s especially good for those who are just starting out. The biggest problem you’ll have with ClickBank is the amount of competition you’ll be up against. Most affiliate marketers, whether seasoned pros or “newbies” currently promote ClickBank’s digital products but don’t let that deter you in any way because there is still lots of money to be made selling digital products. As of this writing, ClickBank has paid out an astounding 1.5 billion dollars.

Due to the explosive growth of people searching for and purchasing information on the Internet, it makes perfect sense to promote digital products. One of the greatest advantages of selling a digital product is the fact that the customer gets to download their purchase immediately after payment. People are willing to pay for quality information especially when it contains a solution to a problem and they have instant access to it.

Many different techniques and sales strategies are used to promote the products that ClickBank offers via their marketplace. The most important thing you need to decide on is how you’re going to drive traffic to your affiliate offers. The most common and effective ways to do that are paying for ads through programs such as Google Adwords or some other pay-per-click resource or focusing on creating some content rich authority blogs or web sites. You’ll be able to embed your affiliate links, banners, videos, etc. on your sites. If possible, it would be ideal to utilize both methods.

An essential ingredient to pay-per-click advertising is the type of traffic you send to your affiliate offers. If you want to increase your conversion rate, it’s extremely important that you send highly targeted traffic or you’ll end up spending lots of money with little ROI (return on investment). With most ClickBank products you shouldn’t have a problem bidding on the product name because in most cases they aren’t copyrighted and the product creator knows you are sending them additional traffic and ultimately, new customers.

A big benefit of bidding on a product name is in most cases, the traffic is already pre-sold and the conversion rate should be much higher. You always want to choose products that are high quality and have high “gravity”. High “gravity” on ClickBank means the product converts well, however, it also means there will be lots of competition from other affiliates. Be certain you always review the merchant’s sales page and make sure it has all the elements of a great sales pitch and you find it convincing enough that you wouldn’t hesitate purchasing the product for yourself.

Consider building a review style landing page for each product as it is recommended that you have a separate landing page for each product. Another reason for separate landing pages is the fact that some pay-per-click providers want unique landing pages for each product. You should also be prepared to bid relatively high on the product keywords and phrases. Generally speaking, expect that you will end up paying at least .50 per click since there will be competition for the same keywords but the ROI will be worth the expense.

Always be on the lookout for new products on ClickBank. There are new ones added every week and the good ones become popular very quick. If you’re fast, you can get your ads up for a much lower cost. You can use the search functions that ClickBank provides to find the newest products and there are many free and paid tools that will notify you of any of the new products that get launched. You’ll find that Clickbank offers loads of free tools for both the affiliate and the merchant so I suggest you spend some time there and check them out.

Okay, now you’re making progress. You have chosen your niche and a domain name. The next step would be determining what hosting company you want to use for your site. Of course you always have the option of a free host such as Blogger.com but you won’t own your site and it can be shut down at any time. Look for a dependable hosting company. There are quite a few good ones and the monthly fees are reasonable. Check that the hosting company has a good record for uptime. You want your site to be accessible 24/7 365. You’ll be able to get recommendations from other affiliate marketers by asking in the forums or performing your own search.

With those things accomplished, you’re ready to set up your blog or web site and add affiliate links, banners, etc. You should set a goal for yourself regarding the amount of money you think you can make and how you’re going to achieve it. As you are aware, starting your own business in today’s marketplace can require a great deal of capital and an even greater risk. Those who do start their own business soon find out how risky it is and realize that being profitable can take several years. Since most of us have financial obligations that need to be taken care of, we can’t afford to wait several years.

One of the ways people have found to bridge this gap is becoming an affiliate marketer. As an affiliate, you’ll be able to work for yourself and rather than build a new business, you’ll be growing an existing one. By doing so, there is very little risk and you’ll be able to focus on making some money.

I’m sure many of you have heard that this is an easy business and in some regard, that is true. There are many great features and benefits when it comes to affiliate marketing but it is not as easy as some will lead you to believe. There are certain steps that need to be followed and loads of advice you should listen to before diving head first into affiliate marketing.

One of the very first things you need to do before you commit to an affiliate program is to do an evaluation of your skills, experience and expertise. Are you able to motivate yourself? Do you have any business skills? What skills do you need? Are you willing to work as many hours as necessary? Are you willing to learn? As I previously mentioned, there is very little risk but you still want to make the most of your new venture. As an affiliate, you should have some basic sales and business skills. If you don’t have those skills, you must be willing to learn them. Remember, the products and services you’ll be promoting, don’t sell themselves. If that were the case, the merchants and vendors would not have a need for affiliates. All of your income will be based on how well you perform. In this business, if you do not perform well, you will struggle.

The next step which should be given careful consideration are the products you plan to promote. It’s always best to choose products or services you’re familiar with or have used personally. By doing so, you will sound more sincere with your marketing efforts. Of course, you will also want to see if the products are salable. Even though you are familiar with or have used the product yourself, it doesn’t mean others will buy it. Without buyers, there’s no point in promoting it. You can research the company and find out how well their products sell. Also find out what the return rate is. Don’t be taken in by all the hype such as; “the sky is the limit” or “our affiliates are earning thousands per day” type speeches. You need to know what “you” can realistically achieve.

Last but certainly not least, don’t go into this business with unrealistic expectations. One of the biggest reasons that many online businesses fail is the lack of immediate results. This isn’t much different than any other business. It takes time and a lot of hard work. The more you put into it, the more lucrative it will become. Once you know what’s realistic, set your goals and go for it. If you exceed your goals, that’s even better

If you are just starting out with an online marketing business and plan to use a blog as your primary marketing vehicle, you should seriously consider having more than one blog. To get started, the first thing you’ll need to do is prepare a list of the markets that you have an interest in. To obtain the best results, it is highly recommended that you only have one blog for each market that interests you. As you are probably aware, visitors are looking for specific information so do not confuse them with content that is irrelevant. To put it very simply, if you have a blog about dog training, you shouldn’t have tips about improving your golf swing. If you don’t enjoy what you do, it will only become the same tedious task as your 9-5 occupation. Many people enjoy what they do at first because they are working from home but that feeling of joy quickly wears off if you’re not doing something you enjoy. Don’t become another statistic of those who will probably fail.

2. Discipline is mandatory.
If you do any type of work online, I’m sure you know how easy it is to get distracted. There are so many interesting things on the Internet and it’s very easy to get sidetracked and check something totally unrelated to your task at hand. Or you might get an e-mail that looks interesting and you decide to open it and see what it’s about. Next thing you know, twenty or thirty minutes went by and then you realize you’ve accomplished nothing.

You need to set a time for working and stick to it. I speak from experience when I say a one hour project could take several hours. There are so many things that will come up during the day that you’ll want to explore but you need to discipline yourself to remain focused on your work. Now that I’ve learned how to do that, I’m much more productive and I can accomplish what needs to be done a lot faster. Being disciplined, also allows me the free time I need to check out all those other interesting things.

3. Patience is a virtue.
Don’t have expectations of becoming an overnight success. We’ve all heard the stories of people making great amounts of money in a very short time. I’m sure there are some people who struck it rich very quickly but that is not the norm. Remember, working online is the same as starting an offline business and it does take time and lots of hard work.

You must be realistic, especially when you’re first starting out. Do not expect the results you want to magically appear. Avoid the disappointment and frustration of expecting big money in the first few months. I am not one who will ever discourage a person from pursuing their dream by working online but you need to have realistic goals and expectations.

4. Changes can be good.
In the world of online businesses, you should always be prepared for changes. As you know, the Internet is constantly evolving. To be successful as an online businessperson, you must be willing to change as well.

You will always come across new techniques and strategies. What worked last month may not work this month. You need to keep up with the times regardless of what niche you’re in. There’s always an abundance of information out there and you should set aside some time to seek out this information. You’ll find that in most cases, the information is free.

5. Interact with your peers.
More than likely, there will be other businesses that are similar to yours. Check them out and see what they do differently. Try to make contact with some of these like-minded people. Chances are, you might learn something new or better yet, you might be able to joint venture with them. Joint ventures can be a very important step towards reaching your goals.

By doing all the things mentioned in the 5 steps above, in no way guarantees you will be the next success story but it’s a good path to start off on. If you do decide to start working online, I’m sure you’ll agree that it’s a wonderful place to work and a great way to earn an income. As I mentioned earlier, the most important things you can do is; take time to find something you will like. Don’t set yourself up for failure with unreasonable expectations and always be prepared for change. If you’re willing to put forth the effort and have a good work ethic, you’ll be well on you way towards success.

3. Last but not least is SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
Generally speaking, another known fact is on average, 1 out of 100 visitors to your site will make a purchase. Based on that, you’ll need loads of traffic. Learning SEO techniques will help get your site listed with the search engines so people will know where to find you.

As I mentioned earlier, and it is unfortunate, but many people still think that affiliate marketing is some type of “get rich quick” scheme. All they have to do is post a link here and place a banner there and then they wonder why they aren’t making any money.

Depending on how much income you want to generate, will determine how long you’ll need to work at it. If you’re good at marketing and a fast learner you may only reach a high of a few hundred dollars per month after working at it for a year. That figure is based on the fact that you are starting from scratch and are still working a full-time job. In that case, you’ll only be able to devote a small amount of time to your affiliate marketing efforts. Obviously, the more hours you put in and the harder you work, the more income you’ll earn.

If you’re a “newbie” and just starting out, your first few months are always the most difficult. When you look at your stats and you will check them often, you may only see a few dollars earned. Then you’ll begin wondering if all the time and hard work is worth it. The answer is yes, but you need to stay focused and continue working at it and slowly but surely, the commissions will start coming in.

Another important factor regarding affiliate marketing is the amount of traffic you receive on your web site or blog. Realize that even if you do get a significant amount of traffic, only a small percentage will be converted to buying customers. To make the most of your traffic, you need to know who your visitors are and learn how to determine their needs. Once you know your visitors, you’ll be in a better position to select products and services that will fill their needs. If you can put your visitors in the right open mind set by using pre-selling techniques it will make it much easier for them to click on what you have to offer.

The affiliate marketing business is one that can be very profitable and exciting but don’t expect it to happen overnight. Stick with it and over time you’ll learn all the various methods and techniques it takes to become successful. One of the greatest advantages of selling digital products is the fact that the customer gets instant access to the product. Once a customer pays for the product, they can download it and be reading it immediately. ClickBank automates the entire process. They collect the money and send the purchaser to the download page. This also means you never have to ship anything and therefore, this makes the entire transaction very simple and clean.

You need to get an affiliate I.D. from ClickBank before you can start making money but the process is very easy. When you’re ready to sign up, all you need to do is log on here:
Promote ClickBank Products You’ll find step-by-step instructions and a wide array of free resources to help you as an affiliate. Once you have your affiliate I.D., you’ll be able to add it to what is known as a hoplink. Every product you see on ClickBank has a link that you can customize by adding your affiliate I.D. You earn a commission when a product is sold containing your affiliate I.D.

Now that you have your ClickBank I.D., you can start earning some excellent commissions. There are literally thousands of products to chose from on Clickbank and many of them pay up to 75% commission. You can go to their marketplace and start looking for products that interest you and begin selling them. In many cases you’ll find that there are additional marketing resources such as text links, articles, banners and more to help with your marketing and promotions.

To really become successful as a ClickBank marketer, it is generally best to send prospective customers to a landing page. By doing that, you are able to capture the prospects name and e-mail address. Most marketers agree that it usually takes a customer 7-12 visits before they make a buying decision. Once the affiliate has a name and/or email address they are able to follow up with their autoresponder and will make significantly more sales.

Now you can see why there are many advantages and benefits to become a ClickBank affiliate. Once you get started, you’ll see how easy it is to choose the right products for your particular niche and start making some money. Don’t expect to get rich overnight but with a little hard work, determination and patience, it’s possible to achieve a very nice income.

I am often asked about some of the tools I use to make my marketing tasks a little easier. I’ve compiled a partial list of tools that I use almost daily. All the tools I’ve listed here are free, powerful and will save you loads of time with your marketing tasks.

1. Kompozer
If you’re looking for a great HTML editor, Kompozer is the way to go and I give it my highest recommendation. Kompozer is a complete web authoring system that combines web file management and easy-to-use WYSIWYG (what-you-see-is-what-you-get) web page editing. Kompozer is ideal for non-technical computer users who want to create attractive, professional looking web sites without needing to know HTML or web coding.

2. Smart FTP
You’re going to need a software program when you’re ready to upload files to your web host. There are quite a few programs out there but the one I use and recommend is Smart FTP. It’s fairly easy to use but it is fast and powerful. There are also lots of user guides in the event you get stuck.

3. Roboform
I use many marketing tools but this one probably saves me the most time. If you’re like most marketers you probably have dozens of usernames and passwords all the different sites you frequent. Remembering all those passwords would be near impossible. Roboform saves all of your various log-in details inside a toolbar that sits at the top of your browser. When you want to visit a site, you just select it from the drop down menu and Roboform takes you to the the log-in page and logs you in.

4. Zamzar
Zamzar is an excellent free online tool that allows you to convert your files from one format to another, without the need to download bulky software. It supports a large variety of formats, and it’s perfect when you need to quickly convert something to a PDF  or when you need to turn a gif into a jpeg. They have upgrade options available but the free service is all you should need.

5. Gimp
If spending hundreds of dollars on a graphics editing program isn’t in your budget, Gimp is a great free alternative. This is an outstanding program that has more functions than I can list here. If you’re like most marketers, there will come a time when you need a program to edit your graphics and Gimp will be an excellent resource.

6. Google Alerts
Google Alerts is a great time saver that is completely free and which really helps save lots of time. You simply tell Google what keyword you’d like to monitor and when that keyword appears in Google, you get an email telling you all about it. This saves you having to spend time looking for new content on different topics and instead, you can let Google notify you as soon as anything relevant hits the Internet.

7. Google Reader
Almost every blog publishes an RSS feed and when you subscribe to a reader, you’ll get the content delivered to you as soon as it appears. If you are not using RSS to stay up to date with the best content, I recommend that you start doing so. There are many RSS readers available but my favorite is the Google reader. It is free, saves time and very easy to use.

8. Copyscape
Have you ever wondered if someone was copying your content? Copyscape gives you the ability to check and see if anyone is copying your content without your permission. All you need to do is enter your URL and hit submit. Their system will quickly check the Internet and see if anyone is using your content. This free tool can come in very handy.

9. Big Boards
Here is a great tool to help you find busy forums relevant to your chosen niche. Searching for those forums can be very time consuming but this handy resource will help speed things along. If you need to do some forum marketing or research, this is a great tool to have.

10. Stock.XCHNG
This is one of the best resources for free photos on the Internet. I usually go here first when I need to find a picture for my site. You’ll find photos for nearly any category you can think of. Most of the photos have unrestricted rights but just in case, you should always check before using them.
